Along with the rising mercury, there is an increase in outdoor activities this time of year. From swimming laps in the community pool to mowing the lawn more frequently to prepping your boat, you want to ensure your back and body are well primed for the season.
Here are some tips to stay healthy throughout summer and all year:
Stretch
Many people don’t take the time to stretch before engaging in their favorite sport, gardening, or other warm weather activity. Stretching boosts blood flow, increases flexibility and range of motion, and improves performance. Stretching for 5-10 minutes is usually all it takes to get your body ready for your activity of choice.
Hydrate
It’s important to drink plenty of water before, during and after a workout. That’s particularly important if it’s hot outside, as you’re losing a lot of water through excessive sweating. Drinking enough water daily can also boost metabolism, increase your energy, and help you lose weight.
Fit in Fitness Daily
You don’t have to be a hardcore HIIT enthusiast to keep your body healthy. Find what you love to do and do it. That can be taking a brisk 30-minute walk in your neighborhood or riding your bike with your kids.
Eat Light & Healthy
Whether you have a garden full of fruits and veggies, or you purchase them at your local farmers market, summertime (and year-round), eating should focus on colors of the rainbow. You’ll help keep your body healthy and have more energy to enjoy your favorite outdoor activities.

Farm It Out
There’s no shame in realizing it may be time to have someone else tackle chores like lawn mowing, particularly if you’re an older senior or have back issues. There are likely kids or teens in the neighborhood looking to earn some extra money.
Get Adjusted
Chiropractic care can help you enjoy optimal function and range of motion, so you can engage in the warm weather activities you love.
